I just finished writing a Wikipedia stub article on Sucrose Intolerance. Wikipedia is a great computer source that allows you to obtain information based on numerous subjects and fields of your interests. It is a great way to access information on anything you need or want to know about. Whenever I google a certain word or subject that I would like to learn more about, Wikipedia is usually one of the top sites that show up. Wikipedia is available for anyone who can access the internet. It is also available for anyone who would like to write or edit an article that they may be familiar with or specialize in. Since there are so many individuals with different interests and knowledge, Wikipedia has become a wide based search with over 3, 791, 000 articles. This is AMAZING!

I wrote and edited an article on Sucrose Intolerance which I found to be very interesting. At first I was a little confused about how the Wikicode was supposed to work, but really there are some simple pages that inform you of how to use italics, bold words, bullet points, font size, and much more. I think a few of my classmates found it tricky at first but managed to figure things out, just as my classmate Alyssa states in her blogpost. I found most of my information from other sites on the internet as well as one of my nutrition books that I had bought last year for school. These sites and books really helped me to make a good article so that other individuals can learn from what I wrote. When writing this article, I searched other topics in order to get a good feel for how I should write my article and what the layout is like. This gave me the opportunity to read other people's work, which is brilliant and showed me how informative others can be.

Check out wikipedia here. Search anything that interests you and I guarantee someone around the world has made a page or more about it that can allow you to increase your knowledge and get the information you need. One of my fellow classmates may have even written it! Also, check out my article on Sucrose Intolerance here. I hope I can help you learn something knew!

My Facebook Profile

I created a Facebook page that consists of information about myself academically, professionally and personally. It includes all my favorite activities, television shows, sports, personal and academic interests/status, bibliography and my current work experience.

This page can be viewed by anyone who wants to and is a good way to get your name out when looking for job opportunities. If I were to be hired for a permanent position or get a job interview, that person might want to know a little background information about myself before committing. It is very important for people to understand where you come from, what your personality is like, previous work experience, and your education status in order to hire you for a particular position. Making a page like mine can give individuals the opportunity to get to know you at a professional level.

Due to the fact that the internet has been so widely used across the world, gives individuals an opportunity to search you on google, twitter, facebook or any other website you may be apart of. The internet can be used to your benefit if you use it properly. I learned in my ALES 204 class that twitter can be used improperly if you are not tweeting for a specific reason and rather just about what you are doing that second. It is the same with Facebook or Google. If you apply for a job, many organizations or businesses will Google you to get some background information about yourself. Everyone must be careful when posting stuff. A Facebook page is a great way to share information with others in a proper way. One of my colleagues also shares great advice in her blog post, which I highly recommend that you read. Just click here

You should also take a look at my Facebook page as well!
I have a profile and a page about myself that contain different information which you can see in my flickr photos below except for the images I added are not shown in the photo so click on the links and take a peek.
Before my links were not working for my Facebook page and profile but now they are working just fine!
Hope you enjoy!

A Little About Myself

Hello everyone!

My name is Ashlea Chykerda and I am in my second year of University. I am currently studying Nutrition and Food and hoping to transfer over to the Nutrition Major in order to pursue my dream of becoming a Registered Dietitian. I would love to be able to make a difference in people’s lives and to educate individuals on how they can live a healthier lifestyle.

This type of profession includes working with different groups and organizations as well as doing one on one consultation with individuals. Consultations usually take place face to face with a client.  Communication and support is key when educating and informing others. A Dietitian must be able to share there knowledge and information with individuals in order to help them make better decisions in terms of nutrition and health. They must be able to communicate and teach based on what they know. New research can be discovered very often. It is a Dietitians job to communicate with these researchers in order to find new information and apply it to their daily job and others lives. As a dietitian I wish to share my knowledge of food and nutrition to make a difference in peoples lives.

Social Media is the ability to communicate with people of the same interests throughout the world. Social Media takes place when certain organizations want to get their message across in order to make a difference. I always find myself reading news articles and blogs about nutrition and health which are great ways to share your ideas with others. It is great that social media such as Twitter and Facebook are increasing because they are there to help. The Internet is one of the best ways to have your voice heard and reach more and more individuals! Dietitians use Social Media as a means to learn, teach, communicate and exchange information and ideas with everyone. They create online resources and connect with other professionals globally. Ninfa also shares some important information regarding social media in the life of a dietitian on her blog post.

I found a site that includes articles, blogs, videos, news, quotes, and services from many Dietitians. This site is a great example of how Dietitians use social media in our world today. Take a look, just click here!

This website is also very informative and can help EVERYONE!
